JSON-prettify

    Privacy policy

    Last updated: 11 October 2026

    In short

    • Everything you paste, type or upload into JSON-prettify's tools is processed in your browser. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
    • We count visits and tool use anonymously with Umami, without cookies and without storing anything on your device.
    • We'd also like to use Google Analytics for more detailed reports. Its cookies are set only if you accept them. If you don't, Google still receives cookie-free measurements of page views and tool use, with nothing stored on your device.
    • There are no accounts and no ads, and we don't sell data.

    Who we are

JSON-prettify (json-prettify.com) is run by Jaka Tertinek, Slovenia ("we"). You can contact us at jaka.tertinek@gmail.com.

Your data stays in your browser

The formatter, compare tool, converters and JWT decoder run entirely in your browser. The content you paste or open, including files, JWTs, secrets and keys, is never transmitted. When you first use a converter, your browser downloads the converter's code from json-prettify.com. That download contains none of your data.

    Visit counting with Umami

We use Umami Analytics, provided by Umami Software, Inc. (United States), which processes the data on our behalf. Umami runs for every visitor, without cookies and without storing anything on your device. For each page view and tool action it receives the page address and title, the page you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country, region and city), which is derived from your IP address. Tool actions are described by sizes and counts only, as with Google Analytics below. Umami recognises a visit with an anonymous session identifier instead of a cookie and, according to Umami, stores no personally identifiable information.

This lets us count how many people use the site, including those who decline Google Analytics. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how many people use the tools and which ones (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object by emailing us, or block these requests with a tracker blocker; the site works the same either way. Umami keeps this data for 6 months. See Umami's privacy policy.

    Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, which processes the data on our behalf.

What is sent. The pages you view and which tool features you use, described by sizes and counts only. For example, "formatted 2,340 characters", "comparison found 3 changes" or "JWT algorithm HS256, signature verified". We never send the content you work with, file names, tokens or keys. Google also receives technical details from your browser: the browser and device type, screen size, language, the page you came from, and your IP address. Google uses the IP address to estimate your approximate location and then discards it; Google Analytics 4 doesn't store IP addresses.

If you accept analytics, Google sets the cookies listed above, which lets us count returning visitors. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time under "Analytics settings" at the bottom of every page, and the cookies are then deleted.

If you decline or haven't decided yet, Google receives the same measurements without cookies and without storing anything on your device, so visits can't be linked to each other. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the tools are used so we can improve them (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object by emailing us, or block these requests with a tracker blocker; the site works the same either way.

Advertising features are switched off: ad-related consent is always set to "denied". Google Analytics keeps this data for 2 months. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

    Hosting and delivery

The site is hosted by Render Services, Inc. and delivered and protected against attacks by Cloudflare, Inc. As with any website, when your browser requests a page these providers process your IP address, the page requested, the time, and browser details. They may keep this in technical logs for a limited period under their own retention policies. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering a working and secure site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

    Transfers outside the EU

Google, Umami, Render and Cloudflare are based in or may process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified, or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

    Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email us at jaka.tertinek@gmail.com to use these rights. We can't link analytics data to a name, so we may need details from you to find it.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia (Informacijski pooblaščenec) or to the data protection authority where you live.

    Changes

If our practices change, we'll update this page and the date at the top. See also the terms of use.
